About Keele

Keele University was established in 1949 by the former Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University. Founded to meet the needs of a changing world, Keele has always had a pioneering vision to be a different kind of university. We excel in both teaching and research, with some of the most satisfied students in England, and research that is changing lives for the better at a regional, national and global level.

Our beautiful 600-acre campus is one of the biggest in Britain – but all the most important services and facilities are on your doorstep, with accommodation, teaching spaces, facilities including a medical centre, sports centre and pharmacy, and a range of shops, eateries and entertainment venues – including the Students’ Union – clustered around the centre.

Where is Keele?

Located in the Staffordshire countryside, but within easy reach of the bustling town of Newcastle-under-Lyme, and the vibrant city of Stoke-on-Trent, Keele offers the best of both worlds: a close-knit campus community and an exciting local area to explore. Discover a variety of restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and entertainment venues all on your doorstep. Jump on the train and we’re less than an hour away from the bright lights of both Manchester and Birmingham too.

Transformative teaching and learning

Our students are the pioneers who will make positive change for our future, and our innovative teaching prepares students to meet the challenges ahead. At Keele, you’ll be taught by academics who are experts in their field, on programmes designed to ensure that you fulfil your potential and set you up for a successful career.

We offer a broad range of subject areas, and we’re known for our history of interdisciplinary teaching and learning. Most of our courses include the option to choose exciting routes of elective study called Global Challenge Pathways. These allow you to explore current debates in areas such as Sustainability, Social Justice, Global Health, Digital Futures and Enterprise, to complement your chosen subject. Not to mention the learn a language, study abroad and placement opportunities available on many of our courses.

Students’ Union

Our thriving Students’ Union is consistently ranked highly in the National Student Survey and NUS Best Bar None Awards, and has played host to big names including Stormzy, Ed Sheeran and Snoop Dogg. Keele SU has also been awarded for incorporating the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development (Global Goals Teach In Students’ Union Winner 2021).

Student life in the city

Beyond the Student’s Union, bars and restaurants on campus, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent have a variety of restaurants and bars offering students an exciting social experience. The neighbouring town and city also have several theatres that offer live music and entertainment, plus shopping centres, leisure centres, cinemas and many more unique activities.

Industry connections

Keele’s campus is home to the Science and Innovation Park where many organisations are based. This includes Keele Business School which brings academic teaching and businesses together in the same building to create the Smart Innovation Hub. Having these industry connections on campus gives students exclusive access to work experience through internships and talent programmes.

Research

Interdisciplinary research has always been at the heart of what we do and, 70 years later, it still is. Our research is changing the world for the better. In collaboration with our global partners, we’re tackling some of society’s most urgent problems – including global health, food security and the climate crisis.

Sector leaders in sustainability

We’re proud to be one of the first UK universities to declare a ‘climate emergency’, as well as having ambitious targets to be carbon neutral by 2030.

In 2021 we were named Global Sustainability Institution of the Year, and also completed the installation of 12,500 solar panels and two wind turbines on campus, to generate up to half of our electricity requirements.

Across the Pond is the official representative for this teaching institution for selected countries around the world which means we can help you apply to their courses and help with all the documents needed to submit an application. They also appreciate that students who apply through Across the Pond get the help they need, not only in terms of submitting the application and supporting documents, but also with everything needed before arrival in the UK, such as student accommodation, visa information, funding information and well as preparing for departure to the UK.
