At St George’s, University of London, we’ve been improving health for over 250 years. As the UK’s specialist health university, we offer a wide array of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in medicine, health and science, from the exploration of global health challenges to the study of antimicrobial resistance.
St George’s is tackling today’s challenges head-on, such as the work our researchers, staff and students have recently undertaken to combat Covid-19. By studying with us, you will join a community that is making a difference. Our close links with local healthcare trusts, in particular St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with which we share a campus, put us in a unique position to give our students a real taste of what their future working lives hold.

History/alumni
St George’s has a long and illustrious history of training doctors that dates back more than 250 years, from our inception as a medical school in 1752. From the early days of the University our alumni have included healthcare pioneers like Edward Jenner, who created the world's first vaccine against smallpox, and Henry Gray, who published the medical textbook "Gray's Anatomy"; to more recent alumni such as Sir Patrick Valance, Chief Scientific Advisor to the Government of the United Kingdom and Professor Hannah Valentine MBBS, first Chief Officer for Scientific Workforce Diversity at the National Institute of Health in Washington, DC.
Location
St George’s is located in the thriving, multicultural hub of Tooting in southwest London. We share our campus with St George’s Hospital, the home of the Channel 4 TV show ‘24 Hours in A&E’. Our location offers students the best of both worlds, as Tooting is small enough to maintain a friendly, local neighbourhood atmosphere while being close enough to all the attractions of central London. You will have all the advantages of living in one of the most exciting cities in the world without all the cost.
Tooting itself is full of amazing restaurants, an open-air fresh water swimming pool called the Tooting Lido, as well as the always popular Tooting Market. St George’s is five minutes away from Tooting Broadway tube station, which is located on the Northern Line in London Transport’s Zone 3. Central London and all its attractions are just 25 minutes away and accessible via the Northern Line tube service, with trains leaving every 2-3 minutes.

Facilities/Life on campus
Our campus is equipped with the most up-to-date educational facilities and our recently renovated social areas and Student Bar provide a hub for student life. Students at St George’s have access to a wide range of dedicated educational and research facilities, as well as spaces for socialising or extra-curricular activities.
Facilities include an ‘Art of Living’ occupational therapy suite, clinical skills cubicles, a dissection room for demonstrator-led anatomy, a paramedic science simulation suite, radiography simulation suites and a pathology museum. Alongside our library and laboratories, these specialised facilities ensure our students benefit from hands-on, practical learning provided by academic staff who, in many cases, are also practising clinicians. This means our students and researchers are well prepared and familiar with the real and practical elements of a career in science and health.
Students at St George’s automatically qualify for membership of the Students' Union (SU). Almost a whole floor on campus is devoted to the SU, which exists to represent student interests and enrich social life on campus. The SU gives students the opportunity to take part in the wide range of sports, social and cultural activities and events that they organise.
