HISTORY OF ROYAL HOLLOWAY, UNIVERSITY OF LONDON

Royal Holloway has a pretty unique story. It was created from two pioneering colleges that believed in opening up higher education for everyone. Bedford College, set up in 1849 by Elizabeth Jesser Reid, was the very first college for women in the UK. A few decades later, Thomas and Jane Holloway founded Royal Holloway college in 1886, also for women, and with the same forward-thinking spirit.

That history of breaking barriers still shapes who Royal Holloway is today. Royal Holloway is proud of where they come from, but even more excited about where they are going. Their research tackles real world challenges, the teaching pushes you to think bigger, and their community is global.

The next chapter? That’s where you come in.
