History
Established over 130 years ago, AUB is a specialist leading arts university for the creative industries, offering studies in Art, Design, Media and Performance.
Study in Bournemouth
AUB is in an enviable location situated on the UK’s south coast, with 10 miles of award-winning beaches, great nightlife and arts scene, plus outstanding natural beauty found in the New Forest and Jurassic coastline, and all just 2 hours from London.
Bournemouth is on the south coast of England, in the county of Dorset. It is a lively, modern and cosmopolitan town, partly due to the large student community as well as being a popular tourist destination. Bournemouth and Poole are popular with national and international tourists throughout the year, and can get very busy in the summer months.
Bournemouth has its own airport and Southampton airport is 30 miles away. (Both offer national and European flights), Bournemouth is only 1h45 on the train to London, so perfect for day trips to galleries and events and large London airports. With a local and regional airports serving national and international destinations, plus being close to the London airports it is a cosmopolitan town, welcoming students and tourists from around the globe. It is safe and welcoming, and less expensive than London.
Bournemouth is host to two universities plus many language schools making it a vibrant and cosmopolitan place for students with plenty of events, sport activities, bars and restaurants.

The in-house gallery, TheGallery, is a major resource for contemporary Art & Design in the south of England, welcoming international and national touring exhibitions, plus regular student shows.
AUB is the home of the Museum of Design in Plastics, a leading resource for the study and interpretation of design in plastics and a specialist research resource
Student life in Bournemouth
Bournemouth is a university town and geared up for student life. There are plenty of things to do: cinemas, theatres, galleries, bowling, gyms, watersports, parks, restaurants and bars. Not forgetting 10 miles of golden beach and the sea.
The AUB Student Union has many societies and arranges many events on campus, in town and the area.

A dedicated team in Student Services provides advice and counselling- no matter the situation. Students are fully supported and cared for by specialist staff in order to make their time studying at AUB easier.
Scholarships are available to all international students for each year of their study.

With a campus full of head-turning buildings it is no surprise that the facilities are just as good. AUB is a microcosm of the creative industries, right down to having the best tools for the job. AUB invest heavily in the technology and spaces that equip students in their chosen field which is vital so as to get used to the equipment and facilities found in the real world.

Accommodation at AUB
Just as you’re not all studying the same course, students like different styles of places to live. AUB have a range of halls of residence, each offering something unique – with everything from modern self-contained studio flats to more traditional en-suite rooms in cluster flats, there is something for everyone.
There is accommodation available for first-year students in a great range of halls of residence located on the AUB campus and in Bournemouth town centre (just 10 minute bus journey from campus)
Private rented accommodation is also available.

As a specialist university AUB are proud to have a close community of just 4,000 students. Approximately 20% of students are international form over 60 countries, the remainder being British. A dedicated International office team ensure all international students are cared for.

A constant flow of industry professionals visit all courses, setting live briefs, advising and networking with students. Students are encouraged to take up work placements to gain valuable working experiences. The Careers team is in constant contact with industries, offering career advice to all students while at AUB and up to 3 years after they have graduated.

Study abroad opportunities and internships are available dependent on the course. All students are encouraged to find work in their chosen field in their holidays.
Employability and career opportunities
AUB are proud of their 93% employability rate (students who are either employed or in further studies 6 months after graduating).
It is AUBs job to prepare students for their future and provide a wealth of support, advice and guidance. A dedicated Careers and Employability team help all students in preparing for work offering workshops, events, career fairs and advice. This is available up to 3 years after students have graduated. Graduated students are encouraged to join the Alumni society.
