HISTORY OF UNIVERSITY OF WORCESTER 

The University of Worcester has its roots in teacher training, beginning in 1946 as the Worcester Teacher Training College. Over the decades, it expanded into a modern, multidisciplinary university. Today, it combines its historic commitment to education with a strong focus on research, sustainability and most of all student experience. The university offers a friendly, supportive and internationally diverse learning environment in the heart of a historic English city.

The University particularly focuses on Criminology and Arts courses. 

Criminology combines theory with real-world application, covering crime, policing, social justice, and community safety. Students benefit from research projects and opportunities to explore interdisciplinary options with psychology, sociology or digital technologies. 

In Arts & Humanities, students can explore a wide range of joint courses, combining subjects such as history, literature, creative writing, cultural studies, illustration and animation. Flexible course structures and elective modules allow students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals.

LIFE ON CAMPUS 

The University offers a vibrant and welcoming campus life across its three main sites.  

St John’s Campus, set on a spacious green site just outside the city centre, provides a great environment for study, with lecture halls, on-campus accommodation and open spaces for socialising and outdoor activities. It offers the perfect balance of focus and social life, allowing students to thrive academically while enjoying campus life. 

The City Campus, located in the heart of Worcester, is fully integrated into the city, giving students easy access to shops, cafes, restaurants and cultural attractions. This campus hosts many of the university’s business, arts and media facilities.  

Severn Campus is home to the University Arena, the Medical School and extensive sports facilities, including the student gym, designed to support practical, hands-on learning in sports, health, and medical courses. 

Students across all campuses benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, including The Hive, Europe’s first joint public and university library, creative studios for media, illustration, and animation, as well as health and wellbeing services like a GP and dentist. Cafes, restaurants, shops, and social spaces create a lively, inclusive environment where academic success, creativity, and personal growth go hand in hand. 
 

STUDENT SUPPORT AT UNIVERSITY OF WORCESTER

UNIVERSITY OF WORCESTER FACILITIES  

Students learn in modern, well-equipped buildings that combine cutting-edge technology with inspiring study environments. Classrooms, lecture theatres and seminar rooms are all designed to support interactive learning, while the 24-hour on-campus study centre provides areas for revision, group work, and independent research. 

Students have access to specialist facilities that allow them to gain practical, hands-on experience in their fields. Criminology students can use the on-campus Crime Scene House and forensic labs, while Arts students benefit from radio studios, green screens and the Art House. Health and sports students can make use of simulation rooms, medical clinics, sports labs, and the University Arena for performance and practical training.

SPORTS AND SOCIETIES AT UNIVERSITY OF WORCESTER 

The Students’ Union is at the heart of campus life, offering over 70 sports clubs and societies where you can explore everything from sports, creative arts and cultural groups to gaming and volunteering. Sports enthusiasts can join the university teams competing in BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) or enjoy recreational sessions throughout the week.
