HISTORY OF BRIGHTON UNIVERSITY 

The University of Brighton has been part of the city of Brighton & Hove since 1859, starting as a school of art in the kitchens of the Royal Pavilion and growing to become the diverse and inclusive institution it is today. 

The university’s roots can be traced to the mid-nineteenth century. Since gaining university status in 1992, Brighton has continued to grow, and the university now have some 18,000 students and 2,300 staff studying and working across our three campuses in Brighton. Subjects taught range from medicine to engineering, psychology to illustration, sport science to English literature.

LIFE ON CAMPUS 

The University of Brighton has three campuses located across Brighton. Moulsecoomb, Falmer and City campus are each home to certain academic schools and subjects and have specialist facilities.  

Your learning will be based around one of our three campuses – each with their own unique vibe and spaces to explore. 

All Brighton campuses have good transport links with the city and each campus has been designed with student needs in mind. 

You can spend time on campus outside of your timetabled sessions, too - taking advantage of our libraries, study spaces, sport and fitness facilities and food outlets, to study and socialise with new friends.

SPORTS AND SOCIETIES AT BRIGHTON UNIVERSITY

Brighton Students’ Union is run by students, for students. They organise events throughout the year and are there to support you.  

There are more than 100 student led societies to get involved in. Explore your interests or further your academic journey and join a subject group. There are also many culture-based societies at Brighton that celebrate our diverse student population. 

You can also sign up to a number of sporting activities through Sport Brighton, whether it’s team sports or individual activities for training, competition, or fun.  
 

ACCOMMODATION AT BRIGHTON UNIVERSITY  

They understand the importance of finding safe accommodation for international students, which is why our accommodation team are on-hand to help you find somewhere to live.  

All eligible first-year students are guaranteed university halls of residence, provided you apply by the deadline. Alternatively, our accommodation team can support you with finding private accommodation in Brighton.
