Study Film and TV in the UK
Film and TV, a very effective way to tell a story. During your degree you will learn about the most important processes in a film, script work, the technical work (sound, lighting and editing) as well as direction (how to tell the story, which tools to choose and how to get the actor to make the story believable). You will have the opportunity to discuss your field of study with others who are just as interested in film as you! You will learn how to use film and television as a tool to tell or convey a message. There are both practical and theoretical versions of these degrees, so it is important that you look at the type of course you are most interested in.
Film and TV degrees are perfect for those who are interested in media but are also very interested in film and film's various genres, techniques etc. Film is often combined with TV as these two are very closely linked, but it is also possible to specialise in one or the other. Most degrees offer a mix of practical and theoretical subjects, so partly you will learn about theories, techniques, styles, symbolism, interaction between the visual and sound and much more and partly you will be able to try yourself in relation to making a film or writing for a film, editing, camera use, multi-camera, documentary etc.
You have the opportunity to try everything within broadcasting (TV, radio etc. in purely practical terms, film, editing etc.) to specialising in French film theory after the Second World War - and everything in between!
The practical subjects focus on "hands-on" experience, so from day one you will learn important qualities that you will use throughout the rest of your studies and the rest of your career. The universities give you the training you need to get on, and because the universities work extremely closely with the industry, you work with completely new technology and programmes.
The universities we collaborate with work very closely with the TV and film industry, and this opens up lots of opportunities for work experience and internship opportunities! The universities work with, among other things, the BBC, Talkback Production and other large companies, and this not only opens up opportunities for practice, but also guest lecturers who bring real industry experience and knowledge.
