You will need to apply by the housing application deadline, and of course the best student accommodation in the UK goes first - so that is a good reason to apply early! There are several different student accommodations, price levels and facilities to choose from!
Most students choose to live on campus in their first year. This is social and a fantastic way to get to know students from all over the world! After that, most students choose to move into privately rented accommodation with their new friends. We recommend everyone to live in university accommodation in their first year, as it is a great way to get to know other students (and not just those on your degree).

WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE JOINNG ACROSS THE POND?
I have some retail experience from while I was in school, but what really lead me to the UK and Across the Pond was my academic experience and my desire to help people continue their own education. I have a BSc Physics and a BMath from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. When I was applying for a master's program, I contacted Across the Pond who put on the necessary expertise to be able to have an unforgettable year at Queen Mary University of London studying for an MSc Astrophysics.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO STUDY IN THE UK?
Finding the exact program I wanted was a bit tricky in Canada, but there were lots of options in the UK. Pair that with the fact that Masters program was only 12-months instead of 2 years, who would turn down a chance to live in the UK for that?
WHY DO YOU LIKE WORKING FOR ACROSS THE POND?
I like working for Across the Pond because it keeps me feeling connected to my own time studying in the UK. I can help students achieve the same dream of studying in the UK that I had and it’s very gratifying to see them so excited.
WHY DO YOU THINK STUDENTS SHOULD STUDY IN THE UK?
There are a hundred benefits to studying abroad in the UK. Some are practical: degree programs are shorter, and so you can be out of school and enter the workforce quicker, and the UK offers a wide range of specialized programs to suit anyone's interests. Others are more subjective: the independent learning style of education, the rich historical culture, and the opportunity for personal growth. That said, my favourite benefit to studying in the UK is the opportunity to travel, both around the UK and even into Europe. It's fairly cheap and easy to get around, and so students are able to get the full-experience of travelling to new places while studying, which made my experience worthwhile all in itself.

Nothing short of fantastic and transforming
Studying abroad has been an incredibly enriching experience for me, and my time at the University of Sussex has been nothing short of fantastic and transforming. The campus is beautiful, with state-of-the-art facilities that cater to all aspects of student life, with a little bit for everyone and tons of green spaces. I found numerous accommodation options, both on-campus and off-campus, and eventually chose to rent in the private sector, which provided a unique opportunity to experience the vibrant Brighton more intimately.
The city itself is wonderful, known for its lively atmosphere, diverse culture, and stunning seafront. There is a little bit of everything for all interests and ages, and the close distance to London makes the options even greater. Moreover, the surrounding county of Sussex is equally amazing, with charming little towns and hidden gems just waiting to be discovered. The South Downs, with their rolling hills and breathtaking views, offer endless opportunities for outdoor adventures, long walks and peaceful retreats.
The diversity at University of Sussex is one of the most enriching parts of the whole experience. It’s been amazing to make friends from all over the world, enriching my social experience and broadening my perspectives.
Enrolling in the Governance, Development, and Public Policy program at the Institute of Development Studies was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The lectures are intellectually stimulating and the faculty members are both knowledgeable and approachable, providing invaluable insights into global development issues.
Transitioning to studying in English was smoother than I anticipated, thanks to the exceptional support services offered by the university. Enhanced my personal and professional success
I had previously tried to study abroad for a master's degree, but due to a lack of knowledge in the general application process, I could not do it. A chapter you’ll treasure forever
Brighton has held a special place in my heart since I first visited at the age of 17 to study English. The vibrant atmosphere, the sea breeze, and the eclectic mix of people captured my imagination. When it came time to pursue higher education, returning to Brighton was a no-brainer. The University of Brighton, with its welcoming community and Moulsecoomb campus, felt like the perfect fit.

Accommodation: My Cozy Corner
Our 1-bedroom flat, shared with my wife and our dog, is our sanctuary. It’s where we unwind after lectures and explore Brighton’s culinary delights. Living off-campus gives us a taste of local life, and we’ve become regulars at nearby coffee shops and markets.
Academic Approach: Research Over Rote Learning
The UK’s academic approach emphasizes research and critical thinking. Instead of drowning in assignments, we dive deep into a single project per module. Essays and research papers allow us to explore topics thoroughly, and I appreciate this holistic learning experience.

Practical Tips: Cost of Living and Preparation
Before arriving in the UK, I wish I’d known more about the cost of living. It’s higher than expected, so budgeting is crucial. Also, pack for all seasons—the British weather can surprise you! If you’re considering studying abroad, start your preparations early. Research universities, scholarships, and visa requirements. And yes, bring an umbrella—it’s practically a British accessory!
