University of Strathclyde

The University has four faculties offering over 400 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Business, Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, and Science. Each faculty is renowned for its strong industry links, teaching excellence and highly ranked programmes.   
 

HISTORY of the university of Strathclyde  

The University was founded in 1796 when Professor John Anderson founded Anderson’s Institution in Glasgow with the aim of creating “a place of useful learning.” Over the following century and a half, the institution evolved through several names, becoming increasingly focused on science, technology and practical education. In 1964, following a merger with the Scottish College of Commerce, it was granted a Royal Charter and became the University of Strathclyde.  

Today, Strathclyde continues this tradition by combining academic education with practical learning, research and engagement with industry and wider society. 
 

SPECIALIST AREAS at the university of strathclyde  

Strathclyde Business School  
Strathclyde Business School is one of the few institutions in the world to have achieved triple accreditation from AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS and is the first business school in Scotland to be awarded the Small Business Charter Award.   

Science  
The University of Strathclyde’s Faculty of Science brings together a broad range of scientific disciplines, including Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Statistics, Computer and Information Sciences, and Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences. It combines research-informed teaching with opportunities to apply scientific knowledge to real-world challenges, including healthcare, environmental issues, technology and space science.  

Students benefit from modern laboratories, specialist facilities and strong links with industry, the NHS and international partners.  

Humanities and Social Sciences   
The Strathclyde Law School offers unrivalled experiential learning opportunities that allow students to put theory into practice. The Law programmes offer students the ability to develop their legal skills and become a member of Scotland’s largest student-run Law Clinic. The multi-award-winning Law Clinic was founded in 2003 and is the first and the biggest of the existing Scottish law clinics.   

Engineering  
Strathclyde is home to Scotland’s largest Engineering Faculty and its impressive multimillion-pound investments in engineering facilities give students access to state-of-the-art equipment and workspace in which to study.   

Almost all of the established undergraduate engineering courses are fully accredited by professional engineering institutions. With the faculty’s excellent industry links, many programmes also include placement opportunities with practical industry experience.   
 

LIFE ON CAMPUS  

Strathclyde has a friendly, inclusive, and welcoming culture. Students can choose from over 200 clubs and societies – a great way to meet new friends and try new things, or continue a hobby at university.   

The campus is very compact and students can access university buildings, the student union, the library, sports centre and other facilities with only a 5-10 minute walk. The university benefits from being in the city centre, next to excellent shopping, restaurants, museums and parks. Two mainline railway stations are a short walk away, as well as the bus station and subway.   

At the heart of the campus is the University of Strathclyde Students' Union. This is the representative body for students at the university, and provides a wide range of services, including student representation, clubs and societies, volunteering opportunities, events, and welfare support, helping students make the most of their university experience. The Union also serves as a social hub on campus, bringing together a diverse student community through activities, campaigns, and entertainment throughout the academic year.
