Study an MSc Diplomacy and International Security at Scotland

Finding a home away from home

Hello! My name is Wendoline, and what motivated me to study in the United Kingdom was that I found several universities offering programmes and courses that aligned perfectly with the field of study I wanted to explore in greater depth. The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland was, without a doubt, a great option to begin my studies in the UK. What makes Strathclyde different is that it is located in one of Scotland’s largest cities, a city that is very well connected and has so much to offer in many areas.

I really liked the university campus, which is very well located in the city centre. The facilities are on another level, and the classes, professors, and university staff are really wonderful and helpful. All of this helped me adapt to an academic system that was completely new to me and to carry out my studies with the best performance I could do from my part. Personally, I was able to connect with many people from different countries, people who became friends and even a family to me, while we studied our master’s degrees together at the same university, even though we were enrolled in different programmes. This is undoubtedly one of the best things that can happen while studying and living abroa; creating strong links and friendships to share great and happy memories together.

I remember that we were able to organise several weekend trips to the Highlands to do outdoor activities such as hiking, trekking, and even visiting several castles and towns along the way. By allowing myself to interact and connect with people from other countries, I experienced a unique cultural exchange from which I learned many things in many way. This is something that has added immeasurable value to my academic and personal experience in Scotland.

On the other hand, one of the things I would have liked to know before arriving in Scotland is that it is very important to register with the medical service (NHS) for any circumstance, especially if you live with a medical condition that requires constant attention. As part of what I learned, I realised how essential this process is while studying and living abroad.

Beyond all the knowledge and learning I gained through my master’s studies at Strathclyde, I also carry with me everything I learned on a personal level, because moving abroad to study away from home is not an easy decision, but it is absolutely worth it when it is part of a life project you dream of. Even more so when you have wonderful people with whom you share this life journey in such a unique and special way.
