LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION FOR UNDERGRADUATE APPLICANTS
When applying for undergraduate degrees in the UK, you need an academic Letter of Recommendation which needs to be submitted along with the application.
WHO SHOULD WRITE THE LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION?
Your referee should know you well enough to write about you be able to tell if you are suited to higher education in the UK. The universities will not accept referees who are family, other relatives, or friends. The letter of recommendation should come from your teacher or someone else with a similar relationship to you. You must have a complete letter of recommendation – the name and address of the referee alone will not be sufficient.
If you are in college, or if you have left college recently, you should ask your head teacher, principal or an appropriate tutor to write your letter of recommendation. Explain fully to your referee what he or she needs to do.
We have put together a 'Guide for Referees' to help them with this. Send this link to your referee so he or she can write the letter of recommendation in English and send it through as a Microsoft Word document. Please feel free to ask more than one referee, as we would be happy to help you pick out the best one (unfortunately it is only possible to submit one letter of recommendation along with the application).
HOW SHOULD THE LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION BE SUBMITTED
The best thing to do is for your referee to send you the letter of recommendation, in order for you to add it to your Across the Pond online application. However, if they do prefer to send it to us directly, they can upload it into the form in the 'Guide for Referees'. We will confirm receipt to both yourself and your referee.
WHAT HAPPENS NOW?
- The first thing you need to do is find someone who can write you a Letter of Recommendation
- Give them our 'Guide for Referees'
- Submit the Letter of Recommendation through our application portal unless they and sending it through directly to us
We are looking forward to helping you with the rest of your application!
