University of Surrey

The University of Surrey, recently named University of the Year by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016, is one of the UK’s leading professional, scientific and technological universities with a world-class profile and a reputation for excellence in teaching and research.

The university campus is set in 700 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds on the edge of Guildford's historic town center, and just a short walk from the train station. London is 34 minutes away by train and Heathrow and Gatwick international airports are also both within easy reach.

This year the university achieved fourth place in The Guardian University Guide 2016 and eighth place in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016. The university was one of just two universities in the UK to break the 90% mark for student experience in this year’s Times and Sunday Times analysis of the latest National Student Survey. This has underpinned Surrey’s second University of the Year accolade: University of the Year for Student Experience.

University Facilities

Multi-million pound investments abound. The Ivy Arts Centre, the Manor Park student village and the Library & Learning Center all represent major projects, with the recently-opened 5G Innovation Centre and School of Veterinary Medicine continuing the trend of investment.

The university benefits from major national facilities on campus and Surrey Sports Park, the £36 million world-class development that’s home to a range of professional teams, athletes and sporting events. There is a range of facilities including a 50-meter swimming pool, climbing wall, tennis and badminton courts, a 120-station health and fitness center, three multi-purpose sports arenas, squash courts, ten grass pitches, exercize and fitness studio plus a bar and restaurant.

International students are guaranteed a room in university accommodation. 60% of the housing is on campus. Rooms are grouped by band, with band A being the most basic for those on a budget and band E for those who want an en suite shower and a mini-fridge. Approximately half of the rooms have ensuite facilities.

Professional Training Year

The Professional Training placement program at Surrey is one of the largest in the world, with over 2,300 partner organizations in the UK and overseas. Some of these include IBM, Barclays, Jaguar, KPMG and Warner Bros. The placement experience provides opportunities for any undergraduate student to put their skills into practice and to experience a real working environment, contributing to employability after graduation.

Figures from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) reveal that the University of Surrey is ranked in second place for graduate employability among chartered universities in England, with 96.9% of students in work or further study six months after they graduated in 2014.
