Aberystwyth is a friendly, welcoming University set on the beautiful coast of mid Wales

What makes Student Life at Aberystwyth so great is difficult to explain. Some students say it’s the campus nature of the University and that you will be close to all of your friends and the learning resources needed to study. Others speak of the varied social and cultural activities and the friendliness of students and people in Aberystwyth. Whilst others comment on the superb sports facilities and the inclusive nature of the activities and teams.

Perhaps the real reason is that Aberystwyth has all the advantages of a city and the friendliness of a smaller town.

Aberystwyth was voted top for Student Satisfaction in Wales and ranks 5th in the whole of the UK by a UK newspaper. In addition to this, a recent study of 34,000 student reviews concluded that Aberystwyth is the UK’s favorite university town.

Its true Aberystwyth is not the largest City in the world, and we cannot compete with London, New York, or Paris for the breadth and depth of entertainments but we don’t fall short of offering something for everyone 24/7, 365 days a year. We offer a social and cultural experience which is the envy of much bigger towns but we retain the intimate charm and friendliness associated with a campus, community based University. It’s another reason

why 94% of students when asked what University they would choose to study at if they were given another opportunity stated they would choose Aberystwyth!

Aberystwyth is in a secure, low crime area, with insurance costs that are substantially less than those in urban areas. Our students are from all sorts of backgrounds and countries, which contribute greatly to the cosmopolitan nature of the University and the town. All of the University accommodation is campus based and to help you settle in we offer all first year students guaranteed accommodation for their first year.

Aberystwyth has long enjoyed a reputation as a friendly university closely integrated with the local community. This stems in part from the long tradition of charitable work undertaken by the student RAG (raise and give) which has raised over £10 million for a range of charities in recent years. This commitment to community activity has been strengthened through the activities of ‘Dim Prob’ – the student volunteering organization which involves a large number of students each year in a range of community activities.

We have clubs/societies for all the major indoor and outdoor sports and leisure activities. With 48 acres of sports pitches, specialist facilities for water sports including a boathouse, on campus indoor swimming pool, 2 sports halls, Technogym equipment, Wellness Fitness Suite, Free Weights room, Dance/Exercise studio, All weather sand dressed floodlit hockey/football pitch, squash courts, an indoor 5 aside football pitch, 9 badminton courts, 2 basketball courts, 1 indoor hockey pitch, 3 volleyball courts, 18 tennis courts, indoor climbing wall, equestrian centre… we could go on, but if you are interested in a sport then you will be able to find both time and a place to develop it whilst at Aberystwyth University.
