Lancaster’s location in the North West of England offers cities, mountains, lakes and the sea within easy reach of its campus. In 40 minutes you can be in the beautiful and dramatic Lake District, home to literary greats such as Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin. The city of Lancaster is a short bus ride away. By train, Manchester, with its major international airport, is an hour away, London is 3 hours and Edinburgh and Glasgow 2 hours.

 

The University is set in parkland, surrounded by beautiful countryside with a view extending to the sea and offers both easy access to the thriving city of Lancaster 3 miles away and the advantages of a self contained campus. Academic, residence, sports, social and recreational facilities are all in one convenient location including grocery stores, bookstore, banks, cafes, travel agent and a post office.

 

Lancaster has an excellent reputation for teaching and offers innovative and pioneering teaching programs. It is 8th in the UK for research and is ranked overall in the top 25% of UK universities. It was also short listed for the best University of the Year in 2006.

 

As an international student, you will be housed in one of nine self catering Colleges which are the heart and soul of the Lancaster University community. The Colleges help you adjust to university life provide social and study facilities, practical support and information and are an important part of making Lancaster one of the friendliest universities around. You are guaranteed a single study bedroom on campus for the duration of your studies and have access to a shared kitchen.

 

The Students’ Union sponsors over 60 clubs and societies as well as 30 sports clubs. The Sports Centre has a wide range of facilities for individual and team sports, a gym, swimming pool and many training and recreational classes. You can get involved with the student newspaper Scan, the campus radio station or volunteer to work on projects in the local community. You will also find a studio theatre, concert hall, art gallery and a film theatre on campus as well as many activities in your College.

 

The city of Lancaster offers a combination of history – the medieval Castle and Benedictine Priory Church, alongside several museums celebrating Lancaster’s past such as the Maritime Museum – as well as shopping in high street stores or boutiques, outdoor and indoor markets, and a varied nightlife including cinema, theatre, clubs, pubs, restaurants and cafes.
