The University of Strathclyde welcomes undergraduate applications from all students with a high school graduate diploma of GPA of 3.0 or above and SAT I scores of 1800 or above who wish to take classes in English Studies, History, Politics, Sociology, Geography, Psychology, Business, Education, Engineering and Science.
Strathclyde also welcomes study abroad applications from all students who have completed one year or more of full-time university study and have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Students typically take 4 – 5 classes per semester, equivalent to 12 – 15 US credits from classes in English Studies, History, Politics, Sociology, Geography, Psychology, Business, Education, Engineering and Science.

Glasgow is undoubtedly the UK’s best-preserved Victorian city. In 1999, it was voted the European City of Architecture and Design. Also boasting over 70 public parks, Glasgow, 'the Dear Green Place', is a pleasure to stroll around. The City is home to over 20 museums and art galleries which are free of charge, many of which are within easy walking distance of the campus and more than 200 other cultural organizations, including the Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the world renowned Citizens Theatre.
Glasgow has the liveliest club, pub and live music scene in the UK outside of London.
Sport is an important part of the culture in Glasgow. Glasgow regularly hosts international sporting events and is gearing up to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The surrounding countryside offers excellent opportunities for the pursuit of outdoor sports such as sailing, cycling, golf, mountaineering and winter sports.
Glasgow’s shopping facilities are renowned as the best in the UK outside of London. Cosmopolitan cafés and restaurants complement the huge number of fashion retailers, designer outlets and speciality shops.
Glasgow International Airport has direct flight connections to many cities in the USA. A team of university representatives will greet you at the airport (semester 1 students). The airport is only seven miles west of the University, less than twenty minutes by airport bus or taxi.
As a gateway to the Scottish Highlands, Glasgow offers Loch Lomond and Rob Roy country within an hour’s drive. And don’t forget that other countries in Europe are a short flight from Glasgow’s international airport at cheap student rates.

The Strathclyde Business School is one of an elite group of schools to achieve triple accreditation from AACSB International (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System), and AMBA (Association of MBAs), placing it in the top 1% of business schools worldwide. The Strathclyde Business School is also number one for research: top in Scotland and in the top 10 UK-wide.
The Faculty of Engineering is one of the UK's leading centres of engineering education and research consisently achieving the highest ratings in official assessments of teaching quality and research. Strong links with local industry and multi-national companies mean that our students work on real engineering problems and case studies, with the potential for company placements, scholarships and research opportunities.
Housing
There is a variety of campus accommodation available on the Strathclyde campus in downtown Glasgow. All new single international students are guaranteed University accommodation on campus, provided their application is received on time. Residences consist of single rooms in self-catering apartments. All rooms in University accommodation have broadband access, social areas and services, such as laundry.
Special Programs/Excursions/Extracurricular activities/Orientation
The University of Strathclyde recognises the importance of providing a dedicated advisory service for its international students. Our team of International Student Advisers offer pre-arrival information on non-academic matters, a comprehensive orientation programme, plus support and advice throughout your studies, including running the Welcome Programme, social program throughout the year (Wednesday pub night and weekends away) and dealing with questions about immigration issues, registration with the police, medical services, employment, finance and many others. Our Senior Advisor has been awarded with a MBE from the Queen for services to international students.
University Services
The extensive range of support services provided by the University to international students includes: Student Health Centre, Chaplaincy Centre, Careers Advisory Service, Centre for Academic Practice and Learning Enhancement, The University Library which comprises the Andersonian Library, the Jordanhill Library and three satellite libraries, The Computer Centre, which provides computer and networking facilities.
Healthcare, from the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), is free to all international students in Scotland, no matter how long the period of study.
The excellent sports facilities on campus include swimming pools and a sports centre with gymnasia and squash courts which was renovated in summer 2006 to an exceptionally high standard. A new Sports and Health Centre is planned for 2011. There are over 200 different sports clubs and societies at the University of Strathclyde to suit all tastes and interests.
