Queen Mary’s Location in the Heart of London
Queen Mary is the only University of London College to have an integrated residential campus right in the heart of London. This provides a completely secure and enjoyable living and studying environment. The Mile End campus is located in the East End, very close to the City, London’s busy financial district. Getting to other parts of London is easy with two underground stations within five minutes’ walk.
The East End is one of the most vibrant, exciting and culturally diverse areas of London. There is something for everyone: street markets, parks, cafes, restaurants, pubs, museums and galleries. Brick Lane, which is walking distance from the campus, is famous for its eclectic market, Indian restaurants, 24-hour bagel shops and is also now home to a growing number of upcoming artists and designers. It is slowly becoming one of the trendiest areas of London, so it is certainly worth getting to know.
The Mile End campus is also close to the site of the 2012 Olympic Games with the main stadium being less than one mile from campus. The area has benefited from the Olympic legacy and a host of new facilities have opened in the local area, including the opening of the Westfield Stratford City, one of the largest inner city shopping centers in Europe. A huge park is also being developed on the Olympic site, benefitting the Queen Mary campus and surrounding areas.
Many of the new facilities will be reused and the plans are part of the regeneration of the east end of London. 2013 will certainly be an exciting time for students and staff at Queen Mary!
