University of Essex Location

  

Set in over 200 acres of beautiful parkland, our largest campus lies 2 miles from the historic town of Colchester, the oldest recorded town in Britain. Located in the east of England and one of the safest towns in the UK, Colchester is 50 minutes by train from central London, and one hour from Stansted Airport, a hub for cheap flights to over 100 destinations across the UK, Europe and beyond. We also have a city center campus at Southend, a 45 minute train ride from London, whilst our East15 Acting School is at Loughton, on the edge of Epping Forest and just 30 minutes from Central London.

 

Entertainment within the Essex campuses

Essex has a thriving campus community with a range of amenities on site including shops, banks, a gallery and theatre. On campus entertainment is provided by a full and varied program of events throughout the year and the campus boasts 4 bars, the largest of which, Sub Zero, has a capacity of 1,000.

 

Extra Curricular Activities

 

With 126 clubs and societies there are many opportunities to get involved and meet new people. The Student Union also runs extensive volunteering programs, and there’s a Careers Centre to help you make the most of out your stay at Essex and develop your skills and experience.

 

Sports Clubs at the University of Essex

 

With over 35 different clubs Essex has excellent facilities for sports. We have a 40 acres sports complex including extensive pitches, tennis and squash courts, gym and fitness room, climbing wall and several activity halls. Our water sports clubs have their own clubhouse at nearby Brightlingsea.

International Community

 

With students from over 135 countries and currently around 200 students from North America, Essex is one of the most international universities in the UK with over 40% of students coming from overseas.

Accommodation within the campuses of the University of Essex is guaranteed for international students for the duration of your study. 90% of student residences are on campus and comprise of single study bedrooms grouped in modern self -contained apartments with communal kitchens and dining facilities with many rooms en-suite.
