Swansea University

Founded in 1920 and set in rolling, coastal parkland, Swansea University enjoys a spectacular location just minutes from the beach at Swansea Bay. The University offers over 500 undergraduate and 130 postgraduate programmes in a wide range of subject areas, from American Studies to Zoology, to Medicine and Law. Just three hours from London by train and an hour from its vibrant capital city, Cardiff, Swansea also enjoys excellent rail and bus links to the rest of the UK, not to mention the magnificent Gower Peninsula on its doorstep attracting walkers, surfers and opportunities for caving and climbing activities.

Currently ranked 26th in the UK for Research Excellence and a student body of 17 000, of which 20% are international, recent surveys and league tables have consistently placed Swansea University among the top 20 universities in the UK for teaching quality and student satisfaction. The QS Stars global ratings awarded it 5 stars for Internationalisation, Teaching, Facilities and Engagement, placing it 8th in the UK, on a par with Oxford University! The results reflect the University’s aim to deliver an outstanding student experience alongside teaching of the highest quality that produces graduates equipped for exceptional personal and professional achievement. It also ranks as 15th in the UK and 1st in Wales for employability prospects.

September 2015 saw the opening of the Bay Campus which is a £450 million investment offering cutting edge facilities for students enrolling in the College of Engineering and School of Management.

January 2016 commenced with Times Higher Education Word University Rankings including Swansea University in the world top 200 list of the most international universities. This accolade deems that this is one of the “key markers of a prestigious university….and a sign of great potential, competitiveness and dynamism”

FACILITIES

Clubs and Societies
With 120 Clubs and Societies and 50 Sports clubs, there is plenty of opportunity to pursue your passions and make new friends along the way. Swansea University is home to the International Sports Village offering indoor and outdoor training facilities and also boasts a 50m Wales National Pool. (Built to world governing body (FINA) standards.)

Singleton Park and Bay Campus Libraries
The Library and Information Centre at Singleton Park and the Bay Library are open 24 hours, every day of the year except for the following three days: Christmas Day (25 December), Boxing Day (26 December) and New Year’s Day (1 January). Desks will be staffed from 8am-12am seven days a week.

Career Services - Swansea Employability Award (SEA)

The Careers and Employability Service works in partnership with academic staff to provide the SEA for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. There are two main modules to the SEA following registration:

  • The first module is about finding out more about yourself; what you value in life, your personality type, learning styles, what jobs might suit you, then marketing yourself by creating a CV and covering letter. The module finishes with an interview with a Careers Adviser.
  • The second module is about getting experiences. These experiences may follow on from the first module or they may be general experiences and can be work experiences, volunteering, positions of responsibility to name a few.

Following the completion of these experiences students have a mock job interview.

Student Support
ISAS, the International Students Advisory Service and provides information and advice on non-academic matters, including immigration advice and services, to all international (non-UK) students and their dependants.

School of Management Awards at Swansea

The School of Management at Swansea University announces its Developing Futures Scholarship, which provides funding for Undergraduate and Graduate students:

Undergraduates: 20 scholarships of £2,000 for one academic year available (sum automatically deducted from tuition fees), available to non-EU students

Swansea Wins WhatUni Award

On Thursday 14 April 2016, Swansea University received the award for Best Courses and Lecturers at the 2016 WhatUni awards ceremony in London. Swansea also came second in the UK for its international work, and third for University of the Year and Clubs and Societies.
